| FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) When do you open for the season? When do you close? Our opening and closing dates change from season to season, but we always are open on Thanksgiving Day up until a few days before Christmas Day, generally around Dec. 21 or 22. Please refer to our home page for current opening and closing dates. Are you open on Christmas Eve? No. As much as we enjoy meeting our customers and sellling trees, our farm is also our home, and Christmas Eve is our family time. Our farm closes to all customers and visitors a few days before Christmas Day, usually around Dec. 21 or 22. Please call to check on our closing date if you plan on some last-minute shopping. What are your operating hours? You can find our current operating hours on the home page. Just look on the left side of the page. Where are you located? We are just a few miles from I-65 in Tarrant, very close to Fultondale. (It's much easier to take an I-65 route than go to Tarrant via 20/59 if you're coming from anywhere south of town.) There is a link to our Yahoo! Map on the home page. On the map page, you also have an option to ask for driving directions. We've tested the maps, and they do seem to be accurate! We highly recommend using Yahoo! Maps. Do you sell <insert tree name here>? Check out our tree-buying guide here. It lists all the varieties we carry for the current season, their price ranges and other key information. Do you grow <insert tree name here>? Some trees we grow here at the farm; others we bring in fresh from other states because they do not cultivate in Alabama. For example, the Fraser Fir is an extremely popular type of Christmas tree, but it requires at least 3,000 feet in elevation to grow, and Birmingham falls way short. What's the average price of your trees? How much do you charge per foot? We price our trees individually based on their overall quality rather than just by height. Some trees, such as the firs, are more expensive because they must be transported in from out of state. The best way to get an overview of the varieties of trees we offer for the current season and their price ranges is to view our tree-buying guide. Do you sell wreaths? Garland? We make custom wreaths from cuttings from the trees we sell. We sometimes have wreaths already made for purchase, but our wreathmakers stay pretty busy on the weekends and will gladly take an order. Garland is available in limited quantities; please e-mail or call us to inquire. Why are your trees higher priced than a tree lot / superstore / grocery store / etc.? In some cases, you will pay more for a tree at Pine Hill Farms than you would at your local supercenter or charity tree lot. This is for several reasons: We don't buy in enormous quantities like a supercenter might, so we cannot take advantage of bulk discounts to the extent that other stores can. But most important, we are offering a "total Christmas experience" where your and your family can leisurely browse through our beautiful fields of trees, take a wagon ride, see real live reindeer, enjoy a hot beverage on the house, browse the gift shoppe and overall have a very enjoyable experience that just cannot compare with a parking lot. Also, we can guaranteed that our trees are fresh because they're either grown here or we have had them delivered fresh from the farm. They are not stored for any extended period of time. Can I cut down my own tree? Can I bring a saw? Do you provide saws? Yes, yes and yes. Do you charge admission to visit the farm? No. Do you really have live reindeer? Yes! Before the farm opens, Santa drops off a few young members of his crew who are still in training. They interact with people and get used to being around children. A few days before Christmas, he picks them up to get ready for their Christmas Eve ride! (Note to parents: Please monitor your children around the reindeer. They are herd animals and not "pets.") Do you have restrooms? We have portable restrooms available. Can I bring my dog? We do not prohibit guests from bringing pets, but we don't encourage it. Our farm is a busy, large place with lots of people, noise and activity, and we have pets of our own. We'd hate for your animal to be upset or break free and become lost. Do you have food or snacks available? We have soft drinks and packaged snack foods for sale in our gift shoppe; we also offer free hot beverages: coffee, apple cider and hot chocolate! |
